Some time, not so long ago, we were requested by a customer with whom we had a business relationship stretching over many years, to submit a quotation for re-wallpapering of their entire building. After measuring up we took a sample of the wallpaper and sourced the supplier, negotiated the best price and submitted our quotation, well aware of the fact that the customer•s desks, electronic equipment, wall decorations and fixtures should be moved away to provide access and afterwards be reinstated.

We also scheduled the project to do as much weekend work as possible, as well as completing one office at a time, thereby limiting the disruption to the customer•s operation to the bare minimum.
Two weeks later we were notified with regret that we were unsuccessful with our bid due to the influence of newly appointed decision makers within the customer•s organization. We wanted to know who the supplier of the wallpaper was because the contractor who was appointed did not know where to obtain it from. We gave the customer the supplier•s name, address and telephone number as well as the wallpaper code and price we negotiated.

A few days later we received yet another phone call from the customer asking if we could purchase the wallpaper and provide transport to get it on site. I was told that the appointed contractor only hanged wallpaper and did not have any other facilities.

Needless to say, we also ended up moving furniture.
